Low-Carb Cosmopolitan Cocktail Recipe: Low-Sugar Vodka Cosmo

A Low Carb Cosmopolitan Cocktail is our lighter take on a classic, elegant cocktail. Easy to make and wonderfully balanced, it’s fruity, stylish and fun — an icon of the 1990s cocktail scene. Best of all, this version has only about 2–3g net carbs per serving.

Low Carb Cosmopolitan

The Cosmopolitan became especially popular thanks to “Sex and the City,” where the red-hued cocktail was the characters’ go-to drink. Although it’s often served in a martini glass with a lime slice, the Cosmopolitan is technically not a martini — but it certainly looks glamorous in that glass. We love this version because it keeps the flavor while cutting the carbs.

Ingredients

A classic Cosmopolitan is made from vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and lime juice. Traditional recipes get most of their sugar from triple sec and sweetened cranberry juice; lime adds some acidity and a touch of carbs. Our low-carb version keeps the spirit and bright tartness but replaces the high-sugar ingredients so you get the same vibe with far fewer carbs.

To make this low-carb Cosmopolitan we use unsweetened cranberry juice (or diet cranberry if unavailable) plus a liquid no-calorie sweetener such as EZ-Sweetz to add sweetness without carbs. Orange extract replaces triple sec to provide that orange note with zero carbs — we prefer a high-quality extract for the best flavor. Use freshly squeezed lime juice for brightness and a clean, top-quality vodka (unflavored) for a neutral base.

Preparation Tips

Making this cocktail is simple: add all ingredients to a shaker half-filled with ice, shake well, strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a lime slice. Use fresh lime juice and measure precisely for consistent flavor. Avoid flavored vodkas that may contain added sugar.
