We’re back from a relaxing trip to Catalonia and catching up on messages — thanks for your patience! Today I’m sharing a simple, healthier version of sangria: a non-alcoholic sangria with no added sugar. It’s light, fruity and one of my favorite summer drinks — I actually prefer it to the traditional version.
Sangria is a classic Spanish beverage traditionally made with red wine, chopped fruit and a sweetener. Some recipes include liqueurs or spices like cinnamon. This alcohol-free version keeps the bright fruit flavors while removing the alcohol and extra sugar, making it perfect for all ages.

For the base I used white grape juice instead of wine. It gives a bold grape taste without alcohol. To achieve a lovely red hue and a touch of berry flavor I blended the juice with 3/4 cup (about 40 g) of blueberries. You can substitute red grape juice or other red berries if you prefer.

The method is straightforward. Blend the white grape juice with the blueberries, then mix in orange juice and fresh lime juice. In a large jar, add ice, the liquid mixture and a selection of chopped fruits. Chill the sangria in the refrigerator for about two hours to let the flavors meld, although you can serve it sooner if you’re impatient.

Traditional sangria often includes added sugar, but because this version is alcohol-free and fruit-forward, it usually doesn’t need extra sweetening. If you prefer it sweeter, use a natural sweetener to taste — maple syrup, agave or a little stevia are better choices than refined white sugar.

Common fruits for sangria include oranges, lemons, apples, pears, bananas and peaches, but feel free to use your favorites. My version features oranges, limes (I prefer lime to lemon), bananas, peaches and blueberries. Blueberries are less traditional but add color, flavor and antioxidants.

This alcohol-free sangria is refreshing, family-friendly and ideal for summer gatherings. It’s lighter than the classic cocktail but still full of bright, fruity flavor. Cheers!
