I’m at the doctor’s office with some encouraging news. My CK (creatine kinase) level has fallen from 56,000 to 37,000 — a significant improvement. Lower is better, and my doctor would like to see it reach a safer level around 2,000 before I’m released. I’m not hospitalized mainly because my swelling is limited to my arms and, aside from the CK spike, my overall bloodwork looks remarkably healthy for someone my age with diabetes. My kidney markers were slightly elevated, but the urinalysis came back normal, so he isn’t overly concerned.
There is a setback: the port site in my hand that I used through the night has become unusable because the vein collapsed. That means new access — see my updated hardware?
For now I’m passing the time by reading and waiting for a cupcake.
